Dem·a·goging the stolen laptop

06.07.06

It’s bad enough a theft occurred. It’s bad enough that millions of veterans across America have had their personal information exposed.

But God help us all, the democrats have now spoken.

Before going further I’d like to congratulate the American computer industry. To think the names of 26 million vets and over 2 million active duty US military can now fit on one single external hard drive is flat amazing. What comparable technological feats have emerged from the Islamofascist world of late? And no–that new serrated beheading knife doesn’t count.

But back the democrats. Today a few Senate port siders called a press conference just to say this:

“At some point, this administration has got to stop saying we’ll hire or appoint political cronies, but we’ll actually appoint somebody who knows how to make the government work,”

Stunning. Keep in mind this was a 60 year old career bureaucrat whose home was robbed. It’s not like the laptop was left sitting on the Metro. Of course, even though this individual has been fired and his boss has resigned it’s somehow Bush’s fault.

Got news for dems–every government employee MUST take a computer security training course once per year, and they must sign a form saying they understand what constitutes sensitive, secret, top secret information, etc and the proper handling thereof. The democrats’ wrath should be directed toward the individual.

Meanwhile, the Department of Veterans Affairs has put out an All Points Bulletin for the missing laptop:

Montgomery County police are offering a $50,000 reward for information that allows authorities to recover the laptop. The computer is a Hewlett-Packard model zv5360us and the external hard drive is an HP External Personal Media Drive.

Here’s hoping for a shred of honor among thieves.

06.06.06

Today is the so-called “day of the evil”, 06/06/06. Hollywood is even releasing a new version of “The Omen” in mock commemoration. Schools in some areas took steps to increase security, most likely due to jokes disguised as threats. But there’s another significant number associated with today–9387.

That’s the number of United States servicemen buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France, most of whom gave their lives on D-Day June 6,1944.

Here’s a good summary of some other tributes.
